Hi Guys Just wondering with all the talk of DMF's and the high cost of replacement, what are the signs when a DMF starts to fail. My 2ltr 55 plate TDCi has done 120k and is still on its original clutch and DMF, everything if fine at the moment but I know I am living on borrowed time, so what would the first signs of the DMF failing be.
The symptoms of a P2566 trouble code include reduced acceleration, smoke from the exhaust, fouled spark plugs, excessive noise from the turbocharger, and higher-than-normal engine and transmission temperatures. Other common symptoms include a hissing sound issuing from the turbocharger wastegate and surrounding hoses and lowered engine performance.
DMF Mondeo TDCi 130 Warning Signs ??? - Chad.R : The starter issue as described above (it gets clogged with swarf from the disintegrating DMF and can get stuck) is one tell-tale. One other is a loud clatter and vibration (on top of the usual diesel noises) at idle.
I'd suggest it's the exhaust side of the turbo you should be checking, along with the VNT vanes. Not sure how easy it is to access on the Mondeo but one possibility is that the vanes got stuck closed and overboosted the turbo. You should get a warning light and fault code appear if that was happening though so that's not a definite.
I had similar symptoms when I had my mondeo. Flashing glow plug light, 30 seconds later, cut out completely. A colleague has a 55 plate Mondeo Estate TDCI on 175k on original clutch, injectors

You will experience a loss of power. The engine may show signs of overheating. The transmission may show signs of overheating and harsh shifting.
